I was given a comforting (as well as exciting) idea. There was a time when I had to travel over to California, to have an MRI done by the lab researching one of the conditions that I have. My mother did of course have to come along with me, and we spent just over a week there. In addition to having my MRI that week, I also got to meet and talk to the famous robot Asimo. Asimo certainly was extremely technologically advanced for his time. He amazed crowds with these qualities; though I discovered that his primary purpose was to assist people with disabilities as well. That is when I received the idea of eventually having a robot of my own to both help me and keep me company.

When I was a child in primary school teachers and staff members would say countless times “there’s no such word as can’t”. It’s perfectly true that those words can give a child (or adult) hope that something could indeed be achievable, and that extra motivation can enable us to put in more effort. However, there are also many times when an action or goal purely and simply isn’t achievable.

Throughout Rebecca's entire life to this date she has frequently experienced anxiety as well as occasional bouts of depression. As a result of that she has been in therapy since she was three years old. So it would seem at first glance that emotions are something completely familiar to her. ....

In truth I find it very difficult to understand and interpret feelings and situations that I don’t see and feel for myself. It makes things more difficult given that I’m also unable to interpret facial expressions, body language and the countless number and layers of emotions.

As a person who has disabilities Rebecca has experienced many moments of people underestimating her. This has happened throughout her schooling, both in childhood and adulthood.

From the very beginning communication fascinated Rebecca, and she almost immediately began practicing all of the vocal sounds she would hear. Eventually she was able to say discernible words at the typical milestone age, and by around three years old she gradually reached a level where she was able to ask simple but properly structured sentences.
